High Quality Virtual Therapy Services in Pennsylvania and Delaware

Risa Jinunarux-Shibata, MSW, LCSW, C-DBT
Welcome! I am thrilled you are here! My name is Risa, and I am a licensed therapist passionate about helping people navigate life's challenges and uncover their full potential. I earned my bachelor's degree in Sociology from UCLA and my Master's in Social Work from SDSU. After graduating from UCLA, I spent time working in the private sector and held various roles on university campuses, including serving as a Ph.D. academic advisor. Those experiences helped me grow both personally and professionally, but my passion for connecting with people on a deeper level inspired me to return to school and pursue a career in therapy. I genuinely enjoy meeting new people and feel honored to be a part of your healing journey.
Life can be overwhelming at times, and my goal is to help you sort through the noise, uncover your strengths, and move toward the life you've envisioned. I bring a wealth of tools to the table, including certifications in Dialectical Behaviora Therapy (DBT) and training in several evidence-based approaches like EMDR, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Therapy, and Motivational Interviewing. While these modalities are powerful, I believe the cornerstone of effective therapy is building a strong, authentic therapeutic relationship with you.
I am based in PA and offer telehealth psychotherapy sessions to residents of PA and Delaware. Whether you are in a big city or a small town, I am here to support you from the comfort and convenience of your own space. In our work together, I strive to co-create a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you feel truly supported and understood.
As someone with lived experiences, I understand how complex life can be, and I am here to walk alongside you as you work through the tough stuff and embrace the good. When I'm not in session, I am constantly attending workshops, training and peer supervision. But I make sure to set aside time for self-care activities, such as arts and crafts, birdwatching, watching movie, dining out, and traveling.
A little about me: Originally from Japan, I grew up in a multicultural household and spent several years living in Brazil and Thailand. These experiences taught me early on to approach others with curiosity and to truly listen, understanding people in relation to their unique stories. As a therapist, I see myself as a collaborator rather than an expert, because I genuinely believe that my clients are the true experts of their own journeys.
My personal journey fuels my passion for empowering others.
