Risa Jinunarux-Shibata, MSW, LCSW, C-DBT

I am a psychotherapist/clinical social worker based in Pennsylvania and offer virtual therapy services to those in Delaware. I specialize in healing a wide range of clinical issues (depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, personality disorder, PTSD etc).

I am certified in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and Certified Trauma Professional (CTP) and EMDR/IFS trained.

I use an integrative approach, meaning that I tailor each treatment depending on each client's unique concerns, challenges and stories. My therapeutic style is intuitive, genuine, compassion-focused. I recognize that a strong therapeutic relationship is the foundation of lasting change. My approach prioritizes building an empathetic space where clients feel seen, heard, and understood. Research consistently shows that therapeutic rapport is the strongest predictor of positive outcomes, and I'm committed to cultivating the essential bond with each client.

*A little about me*

I grew up in a multicultural household in Japan then moved to Los Angeles at age 18. I had lived in Brazil from the age of 2 to 4 years old. I have few recollections during this time, but my parents would describe me to be very curious toward new culture.

I consider myself a student of life. I firmly believe that there is not one size fits all type of therapy model works for everyone. I have worked with diverse populations in various settings including in-home case management, methadone clinic, non-profit organization, a large college campus, community mental health organization, virtual mental health clinic.

Therapy process can be painful at times, and transformative at the same time I have experienced countless transformations in my work with clients over the years. I am truly in awe of my clients that I've had the pleasure to walk alongside. Witnessing human resiliency and a renewed sense of hope AND experiencing transformations through our work together are the most rewarding aspects of my career.  We are not what happened to us. These days, I understand that everybody is talking about "safe space" and "trauma-informed care" and I would like to collaborate with my client to consider what that space looks like and what that space means to them.

As a trauma-informed therapist, I've walked the path of healing myself. Having navigated childhood trauma and its lasting impact, I understand the resilience and courage required for healing and transformation. My personal journey fuels my passion for empowering others.

I am constantly attending workshops, training to update my knowledge, clinical skills in order to provide the most up to date treatment to my client.
